It is hard to believe that we are starting a new month already. The third marking period began on Tuesday, February , 2015. Progress reports will be distributed on Thursday, March 17, 2016, during our Student-Led Conference. Our Student-Led Conferences replaces the traditional parent/teacher conference. This conference is designed to empower students and creates an opportunity for them to take ownership and pride for their work. In addition, students take the lead on sharing their work and discuss next steps to improve their learning. Students are prepared before the conference talking about how to present and lead the conversation with their families. They use evidence from their portfolios to guide their conversations and show quality work. Students must attend student-led conference on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 1:00-3:30 and 5:00-8:00pm. We encourage families that are unable to attend our student-led conference set by the Chancellor, to contact our parent coordinator, Ms. Ovalles, and schedule an appointment for a later time. Scholar Dollars will be distributed to all families in attendance!
I would like to thank all the parents that supported our PTA meeting this past Saturday. We held a workshop with Operation Hope on credit building and we received positive feedback. In addition, we discussed Student-Led Conferences. It was suggested that each conference lasts about 3 minutes, due to the number of families that teachers have to see. If families need more time they can schedule another meeting with the professors for a later time. This is especially important for any child that has received a failing grade. If your child has received a failing grade, please contact the parent coordinator, Ms. Ovalles, this week to schedule a meeting with his/her Professor.
Our students continue to perform exceptional in their classes and the second marking period report cards registered 43 students receiving Gold Honor Roll (100%-95%), 74 students receiving Silver Honor Roll (94%-90%), and 69 students receiving Bronze Honor Roll (85%-89%). I congratulate all students on this success and hope to see many families at our next award assembly. Please see the notices on the calendar and upcoming communication forum.
Students received promotion in doubt letters during the week of February 12, 2016. Unfortunately, we have met with a low number of families to discuss the promotion in doubt letters and many have not returned the signed letter to the school. If your child received a promotion in doubt letter, please contact the school to schedule a conference. Together we can develop an action plan to provide the necessary support to ensure academic success.
Reminder, students earn scholar dollars every week for uniform and for upholding the Standard of Excellence, which includes and is not limited to, Character, Respect for All, Responsibility and Academic Performance. These scholar dollars can be used at our KAPPA Store to purchase a variety of items: books, pencils, pens, movie tickets, games and KAPPA shirts. Please check with your child weekly to monitor the amount of scholar dollars that he/she receives.
