KAPPA III Principal’s Corner – June 5

The 2016-2017 school year will be coming to an end soon.  We need to make promotion decisions by next week.  We have reminded students that portfolios will be used to make promotion decisions this year.  Please speak with your child to ensure their portfolios are complete and include all major projects.
Today we administered the New York State Science Exam to 8th grade students.  Next week, we will administer the Algebra Regents on June 13th and Living Environment Regents on June 14th.
On Thursday, we will celebrate our annual affirmation dinner, to honor our Graduates and their families.  Affirmation dinner is an award ceremony to celebrate students who have demonstrated leadership and effort within the classroom setting.  We will recognize those students that go above and beyond to support their classmates.  We will recognize those students that consistently display KAPPA’s 3C’s:  “Character, Courage and Caring” amongst their classmates and staff, or overcoming personal challenges.  Please join us for dinner one last time as a KAPPA Family:  4:30pm – 7pm in the school cafeteria.
Reminder:  Our Moving Up ceremony for 8th graders will take place on June 21, 2017 at 1pm.  Invitations will be given to all students this week.
Our scholars will NOT be in attendance June 8th, 2017 as this is Chancellor’s Conference Day and June 12, 2017.

Orientation for incoming 6th grade students will take place next week June 14th.  We will have two sessions 3:00-4:00pm and 4:15-5:30pm.
We are very proud of our students who have participated in the Mock Trial this year.  I would like to thank Professor J. Staudt and Professor Bernstein for working with the lawyers and our students throughout this academic year.
Last week, we held a Town Hall Meeting for the High School process and attendance was very low.  I highly encourage you to attend an information session on the high school process this summer with the Department of Education.  The process is very competitive and complex.  The more information you receive, the better equipped you will be when you have to complete the application.
Ms. Jean Colon, Principal
